The highest level of PvP is still open when you complete PvE. It was open before you completed PvE before. PvP characters weren't that bad, but there were a few little benefits. It rewarded time spent playing, not player skill, which was one of the fundamental things Guild Wars was meant to change.
For most people, it was two seperate games already. Alot of PvP people only touched PvE to get better characters, and never looked at it again. Alot of PvE people just spend all day farming and never look at PvP aside form favor. This might have pushed them further apart, but this time it was for the best. There were more unhappy people on the PvP side than the PvE side, and this addresses alot of their concerns.
PvE characters were always meant to have just different skins. PvE characters were never meant to grant a numerical advantage over PvP characters. The idea was PvP is open, but if you like PvE you can get a better looking character. Again, it simply didn't work like that. Now it does. And if you think it takes 4 days to get a character PvP ready, especially if you don't ebay your gold or had assloads of gold already from farming (again, time spent > skill) then it takes a hell of alot longer than 4 days.

Yeah, PRE SEARING, which means you can get it with ~1 hour of PvE gameplay instead of 300

nah, it's not even 1 hour, it just takes about an hour to get it out because you have to do your secondary quest to leave.

Well, theoretically you need a suffix on it as well. In any case this is speculative; it's possible that +5AL/enchanted is an inscription available at the equipment builder.

Ok OK, I'll leave it alone, but yes I can make a pvp ready in 4 days. I don't farm either, I just know how to make money i suppose...

Better they give it to PvPers than take it away from PvEers.
I'm more interested in the GvG Observer feature than anything else.

I'll still need my PvE to ranger spike. Nothing beats having seven or eight bow swaps

Perhaps not so much synergy as transition. Think of it this way:
Pure Storyline PvE --> fighting monsters that are similar to pvp groups (am fah, zaishen) + missions like dunes of despair (altar holding) and that jungle one (relic running) --> Alliance battles (basically a pve/pvp hybrid) ---> PvP
In addition to learning what the skills do and learning to work as a team, PvE exposes you to various build ideas from fighting monsters (theoretically, this is before running and 55s shot the pve game to hell). I think anet clearly envisioned some hybrid, but the simple truth is most pvers don't want to pvp and most pvpers don't want to pve.

Or you could just play PvE for an hour to get the sword, buy a +5 def sword mod (not that expensive), and transfer it to your PvP characters since you'll never need to remake them again since you can switch armor, weapons, and secondaries.

thats what most will do, especially now you rarely need to delete a character

Yes. While we’ve announced some of the larger features of Nightfall, there are a lot of exciting things we haven’t showcased yet. I’ll give one big example: Guild Wars Factions™ introduced the idea of titles, and we felt they brought a lot to the game. With Nightfall, we wanted to expand on that idea. Earning ranks in some titles will now give you in-game bonuses. One example of this new type of title is the Lightbringer. When displayed, this title gives you damage reduction and extra damage against demons. There will even be some PvE-only skills you can learn that become more powerful with each rank of the Lightbringer title.

Looks like some more grind.

Yeah, but PVErs like grind. They want more of it. They want four hour elite missions. They want to complete fissure of woe for 1337 loots. They're running around mapping cantha for chrissakes. It's not like "Lightbringer" is going to have any bearing on PVP ever, unless in actuallity, the entirity of iA is classified as "demons", in which case Ima pwn dem in HA.

Still using a PVE monk. Aside from some unusual items, I find that judges armour is useless on a PVP only character. Any decent warrior will hit you with elemental if he can see you have judges on - he can't see the judges if you're on a pve character.

I'm not really worried about "Lightbringer" itself, but we haven't seen the other titles yet.

Any title that gives you a tangible advantage in pvp that you have to grind for is imbalanced. I doubt anet would put it in place.

I hope so. But Lightbringer already puts some sort of imbalance in the game, however small. I know full well that a small bit of damage reduction isn't really that much, but that little bit can mean a a game sometimes. Fine, maybe a death or two, but you get my point.

Damage reduction vs demons. Doesn't affect PvP. There has been some whine that titles don't do anything and pve people want to be uber from grind, like in other MMORPGs. For instance WoW is all about how crazy your items are, which directly translates grind into power. In GW that was never the case and it spawned a lot of whine from people used to becoming more and more powerful with grind(whine about level cap, about expensive items not being more powerful than collector ones, about titles not doing anything). Anet wouldn't do anything like that because it would imbalance pvp, nor would tehy separate pvp and pve by making high level cap/uber items etc only usable in pvp. Seems like that with title bonuses against creature types never seen in pvp they did find a way around that.
Although those flame guardians on fire isle GvG map could be demons I guess.

Whoops, ignore what I said, I thought it was universal damage reduction.
Feel free to smack me.
